ETA E-Invoicing Compliance Phases

The Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA) has been implementing its e-invoicing system in phases since 2020, targeting taxpayers based on registration status. Each phase sets a compliance deadline, progressively covering all VAT-registered businesses. As of now, Egypt’s rollout focuses on full adoption rather than revenue-based waves, with details sourced from official ETA updates.

Phase 1: November 15, 2020

Taxpayers among the 134 largest companies must integrate their e-invoicing systems with ETA’s platform.

Phase 2: February 15, 2021

Medium-sized taxpayers and additional large firms (approximately 347 companies) must connect to ETA’s e-invoicing system.

Phase 3: August 15, 2021

Remaining large and medium taxpayers in Cairo must integrate with ETA’s platform.

Phase 4: July 1, 2022

All VAT-registered taxpayers, including freelancers and B2C transactions, must adopt ETA’s e-invoicing and e-receipt systems.

Egypt (ETA)

Phases are based on ETA’s gradual rollout since 2020, with full B2B/B2C coverage by mid-2022. Revenue thresholds aren’t explicitly used; instead, it’s by company size and sector.
